A great way to start the weekend.

Welcome to sunny Jersey!  want to take a walk along the beach with us?  Hubby had a day off today, so we made the best of the weather and went for a walk along the Avenue, and St. Aubins beach.
The last few days of March look set to be nice and sunny and rather warm, and hopefully the rest of the summer will be much the same, because here in Jersey we have a lot to live up to you know, being apparently, the Warmest place in the British Isles   Well it certainly felt good to be here today!

Happy weekend all, hope you have a good one!

Sneak Peek House Tour

Photography  Henry Bourne, source The New York Times

How do you like the sound of high ceilings, lashings of natural light bounced off white walls with splashes of bold colour all wrapped up in a 19th century town house, yes?..me too.
This lovely house tour comes courtesy of The New York Times T Magazine (thanks for sharing) and show cases  the 19th century London town house home of   designer Harriet Anstruther, and  photographer  husband Henry Bourne.  Its the perfect blend of  old and new, with a bit of fun thrown in for good measure (check out the bathroom filled with pink light provided by a skylight)
The house tour  is set to feature in this weekends  special Design Issue of The New York Times T Magazine, were you will be able to read the full feature, but you can also see a preview here
For me my favorite rooms would be the  kitchen, filled with light and plenty of work space for family cooking, (seen above) and  the first floor family room with its mix of large comfy sofas, one in a bright pink colour, modern art work and huge original windows, (seen here) though the powder room has its own certain appeal with its wacky wall paper.  Do you spot a room that you could see yourself in?

Bring in some spring

....a little bit of spring in the living room.

I Tease....

This spring weather has gotten me in the mood for doing a little make over, nothing very big, just taking something a little boring and making it that much nicer to live with, but at the moment its not quite ready so I'll tease you with this photo to give you clues of what I'm up to...

Did someone say summer is coming....

The weather here in Jersey is sunny, in fact it has been for the last week or so, so this morning I thought it was about time to see what I have in my wardrobe from last summer, picture several pairs of jeans, cropped trousers and slightly worn out t-shirts, piled on the bed, accompanied by   a couple of pairs of sandals and a pair of flip flops, and I'm ashamed to say all that fits me are the flip flops and  sandals!  hence the photo above of a healthy salad and Omelette. Healthy eating here I come....again.

Pea and Tomato Omelette

2 eggs
handful of peas
3 or 4 cherry tomato's chopped
a pinch of paprika
about a table spoon of milk
salt and pepper.

Mix all ingredients together, pour into a pan and heat through until the top
starts to bubble, then put under the grill and brown the top,
pile a mixed salad onto a plate, sprinkle with balsamic vinagar
and a little olive oil, cut the omelette into quarters and
place on top of the salad.
Enjoy!

Retro meets Moroccan

From here

Don't you just love this mix together?  A bit retro with the classic tan leather sofa, and flashes of turquoise,  and a bit Moroccan with the rug and hammered steel barrels, all placed on a canvas of white to keep it clean fresh and modern.

Three Kitchens with Personality.

All images House to Home

Which one of these kitchens would be your ideal look?

Kitchen one,  clean white subway tiles and industrial sized cooker ready to whip up a culinary master piece, with a  nod to yesteryear, in the form of  vintage signage, weigh scales and bread bin.
Kitchen two, hand made painted units, Belfast sink, open plan shelves filled with pretty containers all ready for tea and cakes with friends.
Or kitchen three, the bespoke Eco friendly option, reclaimed chunky wooden shelving, salvaged floor tiles and recycled  plywood doors.
I can't decide so I think I'd have a bit from all three, subway tiles on the walls, industrial lighting, white kitchen cupboard with wooden work tops  filled with vintage containers and that all important kitchen aid cake mixer at the ready. What do you think?

Lazy Sunday..

A lazy Sunday afternoon  and some welcome sunshine provides a little opportunity to practice some photography, and to frame some posters that I made recently. (here's one to download)

A little treat, a new cushion.

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to be treated to lunch by a friend, we had intended to  just pop into a coffee shop for a sandwich and a cuppa, but as her Hubby was away diving in Egypt, she decided that we would be 'Ladies that Lunch' so we enjoyed a  two course luncheon at our local garden Center which has recently undergone a little make over (sorry I didn't take any photos, maybe next time) we had prawn and salmon risotto in a creamy sauce, followed by wild berry creme caramel, it was rather delicious (the diet starts soon)

After our little indulgence, we took a stroll around the Garden Center  and I found the perfect star cushion that I just had to have for the living room, because you can never have too many cushions can you, though my Hubby would disagree, but as I used gift vouchers to purchase this one, I didn't feel the urge to hide it for a few weeks before placing it on the sofa and announcing ' this cushion?  oh  we've   had it for ages

Today while tinkering around with my camera and taking a few shots of my lovely new cushion i decided to Google the name on the label, Au Maison, have you heard of them,  they are a Danish Company that sells the most lovely accessories and furniture for the home, rustic, Bohemia, country, in fact a little bit of everything. I think I'm smitten.

Spring flower displays

I have a confession to make - I have never been very good at growing and  looking after house plants, I always manage to kill them off, which is one of the reasons that I prefer a pretty bunch of fresh cut flowers, much easier to look after, and  great for adding instant colour and cheer to a room,  and this time of year there are plenty to choose from.  Do you have favorite flower?  For me certain flowers remind me of certain things or people, carnations remind me of my Hubby and how he use to buy me little bunches when we where first dating,  my Mum use to love roses and we always had rose bushes growing in the garden, (I didn't inherent her green fingers) and tulips - well tulips from Amsterdam, though I have never been, its just that saying.

Do you have a favorite way of displaying your flowers,  a certain vase or pretty jug that you like to use? Above are few ways of displaying your blooms, I think the tea cup would look pretty on a bed side table, or a bathroom window maybe, in any case a bunch of flowers always make a person and a room feel special don't they.

A little change, and some weekend finds...

Well happy weekend all, its been a glorious spring day here in Jersey today, blue skies and sunshine, just what I need, some rays on my face, and with my spring buys yesterday and spring weather today I decided to have a little update colour wise on the blog, (if you stopped by earlier it was pale pink for a while) nothing too drastic, just something a little lighter and brighter.

Other weekend finds

A few nice things...

Remember the line up of handles for the the dresser that I painted?  Well we finally decided on some, these little grey ones with stars, not even in the running originally I know! but when we spotted them in a little boutique in town Called Pebble Boutique, we decided to give them a try.
I also gave myself a little treat in the form of this lovely scarf for the spring/Summer, also from Pebble Boutique , and now online.

Happy Friday all its almost the weekend!

Ikea shelves finally on the wall...

Finally  the IKEA photo shelves that I bought ages ago are now where they should be, hung on the wall in the living room, although it didn't altogether go to plan, I had intended the three shelves to sit centrally on the wall, but some where along the way, my very technical system of measuring with a piece of string let me down and we failed miserably, the whole thing sits too far to the right, and is not central at all.
Looking on the bright side, it means that I will have to take a trip to France to collect some more shelves and  place one at the other end to even it out...Yeah! Yes i am totally obsessed with Ikea...

But for now, here is the display that I created yesterday, although i'm sure that this new space will provide me with many hours of tinkering and moving things around to get it just so, these thing take time to get right you know...

Bit of a side angle here...

...and the other side...

Still wanting to change the red sofa....

Just in case you are wondering, the  walls are actually all white, but its photographed a bit grey looking, and I'm still unsure about painting the units, but for now I'm happy with how its turned out.
What about you have you made any changes to a room lately?
